Opening an email marked 'Invitation to review' I tentatively agreed to read and review a book by a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, about Leyton Orient, here on a Walsall website...
Despite my early reservations, 'Orientation' by Adam Michie makes for a wonderfully compelling read, with all the warmth and humour you'd expect from a seasoned supporter.
After many years supporting Tottenham Hotspur, Adam had become more and more disillusioned with the beautiful game, be it the increase in ticket prices, the rotating door effect of the transfer window or the simple lack of a fellow Spurs supporter to share the highs and lows with, Adam was on the lookout for a new club to ignite the passion he and his Grandfather had once shared.
Following a birthday trip to Leyton Orients Brisbane Road, he and a select group of friends embarked on a journey to rediscover their footballing passion and immersed themselves in the world of the lower leagues. We follow Adam through the highs and lows of being a supporter, from the glitz and glamour of The Premier League to freezing Tuesday nights in The Johnstones Paint Trophy and everything in between.
Adam has chronicled a season in the life of a passionate football supporter, and I for one am hoping for a second edition after the current campaign.
'Orientation' is a must read for any football supporter, and comes highly recommended.
The book is published by, Chequered Flag Publishing and can be purchased HERE.
