Following Saturday's victory over Preston North End, Bescot Banter columnist Lee Hale shares his Match Report;
Opening couple of minutes of the first half Preston dominated without threatening Wacka's goal.
Then Walsall started to push their way into the game, and on the tenth minute Kevan Hurst pushed a good ball through to Alex Nicholls who bolted the ball home from just inside the PNE box to make it 1 0 to Walsall.
Walsall started to look like the side that we all know they can be, holding their own at least against the promotion contenders PNE.
Preston striker Neil Mellor put an unmarked header at the back-post over the bar, which showed the story of Preston's first half pushing for opportunities but not actually threatening Jimmy Walker.
Before the break Sadler got booked for time wasting (somehow) and Chambers got himself booked for a foul which effectively ended the dangerous Neil Mellor's game
Half Time Walsall 1 Preston North End 0
As the second half began, Walsall really started to find their feet after a bad touch from Proctor denied Preston a good goalscoring opportunity. Nicholls fired over the bar from just outside the area, as the Saddlers confidence started to grow.
Preston had a debatable handball shout against Westlake not given, before Kevan Hurst had a speculative long range effort fly past the keeper but cleared off the line.
Just after, a poor decision from the ref saw Lonee Dave Martin sent off for a second bookable offence.
To sure up the midfield Taundry replaced, Grigg.
Now being the pessimist/Walsall fan that I am I was expecting a full 'backs to the wall' job whilst down to ten men, but it wasn't the case with Walsall still, more than holding their own at the back and in the middle of the park.
Not long after, Kevan Hurst was replaced by Claude Gnakpa, Walsall managed to hold their own until the referee (finally) blew the final whistle to give the Saddlers a much needed and well deserved three points.
Final Score: Walsall 1 Preston North End 0
