Tranmere Rovers 2 Walsall 1 - Match Report

Following Walsall's defeat to Tranmere Rovers, columnist Lee Hale shares his Match Report;

The opening few minutes at Prenton Park was an even display with neither team seeming to settle.

As Tranmere started to settle, Jimmy Walker defied his age once again, to deny the home side.

Adam Chambers picked up, what seemed like an ankle injury and was replaced by Richard Taundry. Walker continued to keep us in the game until half time with Walsall staying strong at the back, but showing a serious lack of creativity going forward.

HALF TIME: Tranmere Rovers 0 Walsall 0

Walsall started the second half brightly, with Kevan Hurst forcing a good save from the Tranmere keeper. Then in the 58th minute, Tranmere midfielder Robbie Weir put Walsall behind.

Hurst and Grigg were replaced by Macken and Gnakpa over the next uneventful ten minutes of play, before Saddlers Captain Andy Butler hammered in an equalising header, in the 72nd minute. The Walsall contingency in Tranmere's Cow Shed went wild.

Unfortunately the joy didn't last as ten minutes later Tranmere man Mustafa Tyriaki scored the winner for the home side, leaving The Saddlers in seventeenth place in npower League One.

FINAL SCORE: Tranmere Rovers 2 (Weir 59' Tyriaki 80') Walsall 1 (Butler 73')
