Broadcaster Sky Sports are reporting that Sky Bet Championship side Brentford have made an official approach for Walsall manager Dean Smith, backing up the earlier reports that the Bees had turned their attention to the former defender following the collapse of talks with Swansea City Assistant Manager Pep Clotet.
'Sky Sources' confirm; "Brentford have made an official approach for Walsall manager Dean Smith, according to Sky sources.
"The Championship club have been without a permanent head coach since Marinus Dijkhuizen's departure at the end of September.
"Lee Carsley has been in charge since then and will take charge of Brentford's trip to Bolton live on Sky Sports on Monday, but he is not interested in taking on the job full-time, and it is understood Smith is now Brentford's first choice."
